Having made traditional cheese fondue three times in the past week using a saucier for cooking and serving, I thought I should finally give in and get a fondue set. Having quizzed several friends whether to get electric or gel/candle, and cast iron vs. stainless steel. the recommendation came back for cheese do gel/candle and enameled cast iron - everything is aesthetically more appealing about it. If you're into beef or other meats fondue you should get a separate set of stainless steel and that electric is safer in that use because you're dealing with oil and potential spills; it also maintains the temperature better. Well, we're only doing the cheese. I priced some nice enameled cast iron ones. AAAAAAGH!!! I fled away in sticker shock. Another consideration was I didn't need a party size one, just one that will make a generous two or three servings. Well, Staub made one perfect for us, 3/4 of a quart. $140 with heating stand and forks. Personally that's too much. Well, I lucked out. I bid and won a brand new one on E-bay for $45.00 plus $8.00 shipping.

Now, let's see if I'll make fondue again once I have the equipment.
